There are few things more satisfying than reaching the finish line of a fitness goal. But if you’re living a mostly sedentary lifestyle, taking that first step can be intimidating. It doesn’t have to be; all it takes is the right motivation.
And what better way to achieve your fitness goal than in the name of a great cause? On June 8th, Walmart will hold its 11th annual Walk for Miracles – a one or five kilometre walk to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. (Visit walmartwalkformiracles.ca to sign up in your area and to see how the funds raised help a variety of children’s hospitals across Canada.)
“A five kilometre walk is a great distance to start with, especially if you’ve not been active in a while,” says Lee Scott, founder and owner of WOW Power Walking, where she coaches people on walking every distance, from around the block to a full marathon.
Of course, with any training program, it’s always best to consult a physician to ensure that you’re physically up to the challenge. Once you get the green light, follow our eight-week training guide to get moving, starting here with week one.
Are you ready? Let’s get started!
